2019 AGM: Priorities of the Yukon Francophone community
Whitehorse, September 30, 2019 - On September 21, 2019, members of the Association franco-yukonnaise (AFY) gathered at the Mount McIntyre Recreation Centre in Whitehorse to participate in the organization's 37th annual general meeting (AGM).
In the morning, participants enjoyed a friendly brunch in a rustic atmosphere. In the afternoon, the AFY presented its annual report and the results of the work done by the Table des leaders de la Francophonie du Yukon (Yukon Francophone leaders' round table) at the meeting held in connection with the 2019 federal election. The AFY summed up the five priority areas for action identified by the Table: modernizing Canada's Official Languages Act, investing in priority sectors, improving access to health services in French, investing in French-language education, and promoting Francophone immigration.
During the election of the board of directors, there was applause at the re-election of Jeanne Beaudoin for another term as president. Josée Belisle and Jean-Pascal Ladroue were elected as administrators for two-year terms. The position of administrator left vacant midterm by Christophe Ballet will be taken up by Marielle Veilleux for the coming year. They will join Marie-Stéphanie Gasse, Vice-President, Davy Joly, Treasurer and Chair of the Management Committee, and Stephan Poirier, administrator, to form the new AFY Board of Directors.
"I am honored to begin this new term with a board that is committed to the Francophone community. I will continue to ensure that progress is made on priority issues for Yukon Francophones in order to represent their interests," said AFY President Jeanne Beaudoin.
The AFY sincerely thanks all the members who attended for their commitment to the Yukon Francophone community.
